Families and Communities Embrace

Welcome to FACE. Our vision is to promote a safe, nonviolent community in the Palouse region by using education prevention and outreach. If you like what we stand for, make a contribution to put an end to broken families? If one person could pitch in, it'd make all the difference.

Mission Statement

Families and Communities Embrace or FACE is committed to the preservation of wholesome individuals, families and communities through awareness of the dangers of addiction, domestic violence, hate crimes, and homophobia. It's our goal that we can provide the resources necessary to help the communities of Moscow, Pullman, and the local universities to meet our mission.

Vision Statement

Our vision is to promote a safe, nonviolent community in the Palouse region. FACE strives to use education prevention and community outreach to promote tolerance and nonviolence. In order to do this, we fund local events to raise money and educate the community via the Internet, publications, and word-of-mouth volunteering. FACE also directs victims to healthy and safe environments by providing local and national resources to help them cope with the threats that face our community.

Background

In 2006, FACE was born from an assignment in the School of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Idaho. The assignment required a presentation on how to promote FCS throughout the State of Idaho. After tossing around ideas, I wanted to demonstrate the problems that happen in families, calling them poisons and the project PITCH (Poisons in the Common Home.) It was a tentative umbrella of negative problems in family life that impacts development of our adolescents. However, after more research, it be became clear that the most important to me was violence in the community and home.

After encouragement from students and faculty, it became clear that a service like FACE is needed. There are excellent services on the Palouse for domestic violence, substance abuse, and homophobia including support for victims, but many of these are not widely known. FACE is designed to make these services easily accessible and provides local resources, statistics, and information on violence specific to our community.

FACE held its first fundraising event in July 2006 at the Farmer's Market in Moscow. Local sponsors included Eastside Cinemas, Hyperspud Sport, Natural Abode, Needle Nook, One World Cafe, Wine Company of Moscow, Cactus Computer, Moscow Florist & Gifts, Book People of Moscow, and Camas Prairie Winery. Our thanks and gratitude go to all the wonderful Moscow sponsors who made donations to Families and Communities Embrace.
